I am an 8th grade student and this year my school took on this new curriculum. I'm just wondering how it is supposed to help, because it has honestly made this the worst year of English class I have ever had. I literally learned nothing from the entire course, with the exception of of one statement, "A memoir is a true story where the author reflects on their memory," or something of that nature, I can't remember it exactly. That is really the only thing I remember from the entire year, which will end for me in 6 days. After all that time, we only wrote a persuasive essay and a memoir, and did annoying worksheets that were supposed to help us write the essays, but actually just wasted time. Seriously, these sheets asked horrible questions and it would have been better to just completely skip them. Also, those "writer's notebooks" were stupid. I don't mean to be rude, but that is really the only word to describe them, unless you have a more extreme word to say it. I want to know how this program was supposed to help, and I hope my teacher just did it wrong because it was not effective. I tried finding out myself, but as soon as I found out they call the program "Writing Fundamentals" I got extremely angry. How are the fundamentals of writing memoirs and persuasive essays? I think the fundamentals would be grammar, vocabulary, etc, and basically everything we didn't do this year. Instead of actually learning how to write, we just wrote. Who thought that would help? I know, we already have learned a lot of it in previous years, but really? My sister in her junior year of high school says she still does vocabulary. If that's the case, I should definitely be doing vocabulary. I guess I should wrap it up now, so how does is this curriculum supposed to help?

My father is from Germany and was a child during WW2. His father was Jewish and at age 8 he pleaded w/ the Nazis as they abducted his father from their home to a camp where he was killed. So one would seek initiation into any of the four classes of tantra...But, beware, there is a system of study and practice that must be understood by the practitioner, and adhered to, lest he or she lose his or her way. He or she would at least have established some familiarity with renunciation, bodhicitta, and the correct view of dependent origination. This is why it is critically important to have an honest-to-goodness teacher of tantra, a suitable guide who can keep you on track. And these are as difficult to find as stars in the daytime.

You also need to make sure you don't miss application deadlines. Regardless of GPA, missing a deadline never looks good or helps anyway.

I'm not going to waste everyone's time with a long sob story. My school is simply not designed for what I want to do with my career. They have my major, but do not have enough faculty members in the program for it to even exist. Classes are constantly cancelled due to lack of faculty members. I already work out everyday but Sundays. I do 65 minutes on the elliptical machine on level 6(is that too much) and I do 30 mins of weight training( i.e lifting dumbbells, seated leg press, glutes, chest fly, hip adduction and abduction) for about two months and I haven't dropped any pounds yet. I also changed up my diet, limited my carb amount but increase my protein amount. Many grad schools won't consider you without at least a 3.0 GPA; anything below that is failing in grad school, and grad school classes are much harder than undergrad. You didn't mention what field you're going into - you need a PhD in a particular field to teach it, and some fields are far more competitive than others. For the sciences, you'll need to get some good research experience to have a shot at a decent grad school even if you do have a high GPA - low GPA and no research experience is a killer for applying to grad schools. And the level of the institution you earn your PhD at determines where you might get a job - that level or lower. You're not going from the University of Wyoming to get a job as a professor at Harvard. It's very hard to get a faculty job even if you do have a PhD and a ton of research in your field - less than 5% of PhDs in some fields get a job as a professor. This might not be the best choice of careers, but if it's really what you want, keep working on your GPA.

Lord of the Dogs is right. There is no career path for a BA in psychology so it really does not matter where you go for undergrad. If you are going to pursue a career in psychology it does matter where you go to grad school. Save your money for grad school and go to the cheapest undergrad which would be a state. Apply to another state for your 5th school. Cal Poly SLO is very difficult to get into maybe you should also apply to Cal Poly Pomona.

As with all martial arts judo is no different, you will start with learning some fundamentals. No one will expect you to know anything or to be very flexible. You will learn as you continue to train. You will gain more flexibility as you train. If you work on your technique and attempt to do what is taught in your class there should be no problem with advancing in rank (belt color) as you learn. I have this so-called "friend" that I thought was my friend. She's 39 and I'm 34. She goes to the same college I go to, but she is in the Nursing program already (RN) and I am still taking prereqs for it. I told this "friend" of mine, and she was so happy for me at first. I told her that when I first wanted to join it, she was the one that put me down for it, but now she wants it too! Her GPA is about 3.1 until now, and mine is 4.0. So she likes to compete with me. I am not worried about competing with her because 1-she's suposed to be my friend and 2-she's already into the nursing program and I haven't even applied yet. So what's her problem? Jealousy? You have the qualifications for both universities. I noticed you also previously posted about going into different universities in Florida. I am a graduate from the University of South Florida and working on a masters at the University of Florida and could provide additional information if needed on what the top programs are at each school. There are plenty of universities in Florida to chose from including: FAMU, FSU, UF, USF, UCF, UM, UWF, UNF, FIU, and FIT. More importantly than the "if" question, I recommend asking yourself where you want to go. You will get into at least 7/10 of these universities, at the minimum. However each university offers unique advantages. For example, going to USF I was able to volunteer at places like Busch Gardens and Lowry Park Zoo (which relates to career). I would never have gotten that opportunity if I had gone to Tallahassee! But majoring in politics, I would prefer FSU where I could be close to the government seat and get intern experience if possible. Another example would be if I wanted to work in marine biology, I would certainly prefer a university close to the ocean and not landlocked by over 30 miles!

Why do people think Dr. Abigail Tyler from The Fourth Kind is real?

That was an excellent observation and great research that you uncovered about the movie. After it came out, I did the same thing. Now, the reason so many people think it's real is because the actors themselves break the 4th wall, which is a big no-no in the film industry, and actually tell the audience that the film they are about to see is actual footage and is indeed all fact. Plus, when any movie has "actual footage" anyone is bound to believe it. And yes, all the stories about missing people is true but that doesn't necessarily mean alien abduction. I do know that there was a significance about the owl that the victims see, but from real reports, the victim doesn't see the owl until after abduction. Sleep Paralysis Can it be?

No. I believe some sleep paralysis is an occurrence where we partially wake up after our spirits have been out of our bodies while we sleep. We don't die but our spirits are believed to be able to travel to the other side (heaven) when we are asleep to visit loved ones and to rejuvenate or wherever else to please. I have a few questions about going to college.. As long as your MOm has a place to live and you wont be living out of a car or something, I'd say its a no brainer to go with her. You have a great GPA, and if you can pull that off where you are now, you can do it anywhere. Your high school may be better where you are now, but you can only count that a little. Hardly any kids actually have a choice where they go to school. A college (with a GPA like yours, I hope you plan on going, right?) would realize that and wouldnt really be able to hold it against you if you went to a different HS for your Jr and Sr years. Besides, once you get to college, nothing you did in HS will matter. It wont matter if you went to the best or the worst HS in the country. Its a whole new ball game. Beyond that, it sounds like a bad situation with your Dad, and a better school is not worth putting up with all that for.

Schedule 2 looks better. Typically you want a balance of math/science classes with humanities courses. Too many math/science classes can actually be a turn-off.

I love the freedom we are given in the United States to believe what we want to and to associate with people with similar beliefs. Is a 720 SAT math score good enough to get me into "alright" private colleges if my reading is 480?

I'm trying to see what kind of colleges I would be able to get into. I have a 3.76 unweighted GPA and will have taken five AP classes by the time I graduate. My grades have gotten better each year and I'm about to enter my senior year. My SAT scores are; math-720 reading-480 writing-480. I'm a varsity athlete but don't do much other extracurricular activities. Is thee any chance to get into a college like Willamette University, University of Portland or Lewis & Clark College. I will most likely improve my SAT scores next time i take them. I'm very strong in math and science as well.

Getting a degree with learning disability?!?

I am 24 and not yet done with my degree. I have one college algebra course until I get my Associates (already walked, but need that class). My local university won't allow me to go any further until I finish that algebra. I have a severe case of dyscalculia and can't find another fully online math course so I can go at my own pace. If I finished math I would have about 1 year to go. I am so embarrassed and super jealous of anyone with a degree or "real" job. My math stupidity is holding me back and otherwise I have a 3.5 gpa! Hello! Im looking for something to do over the summer and I want to maybe tutor some kids but the thing is im 12 years old (13 in nov.). I just graduated the 7th grade. I would like to tutor children that are going to 5th grade or under. I can tutor any subject except for math (im horrible at math) but preferably english. I graduated the seventh grade with honors/magnet classes with a 4.0 GPA (so straight A's obviously). I graduated with the highest grade in my english class with 100.0% and highest for science with 98.8. In history I wasnt the highest but I got 96.0 ..point is I got straight A's I can also tutor in music theory and violin (violin lessons for 4 years, music theory for 1 year), and my grades have always been good this isnt the only year. Point is I would like to tutor some kids, I can do it for free but I would enjoy a bit of pay (I dont need a lot) and I live in the LA area. So am I old enough to tutor kids? I know a lot of smart people who had high SAT scores that could of got them into good schools, but instead chose to go to a cheap college and save money. Their theory was regardless of what school they went to they would still end up in a high paying job because of their intellect not what college they went to. I know an actuary who got a 740 on the math section of his SAT who makes over $120k a year. All he needed was bachelors degree in Mathmatics/ Actuary Science from a local university he commuted to that was very inexpensive. He has been an actuary for about 6 years now and passed all five of the tests. He knew he could get into a good school, but he thought it was a waste of student debt since either way he still was going to be making 6 figures from his bachelors degree.

I go to Coastal Carolina and I love it. I am a biology major with the intentions to attend medical school after graduation. So far, I have a 3.9 gpa overall. Coastal does not have any pre-med majors, but they do have a pre-med advising department and informed me of the classes that I would need. I also know that one cannot get into medical school with any major. I'm worried, however, that I may not get into med school without a strong pre-med program under my belt. in comparison to SAT scores? I did pretty well on my regular SAT (2210), however, I did so-so on subject tests (670 Math II and 720 Chemistry). Ordinarily I would consider those decent, but I'm only in the 54th percentile for math and 69th for Chem, so how heavily weighted are the subject tests in comparison to regular SAT at a competitive school? Learning Guitar Scales?

I am just starting out on the guitar and looking to teach myself, I have a Fender Stratocaster and amp, chord chart poster and am trying to start with understanding all the chords and styles. The music I like and am interested in most is rock, blues, melody, and the guitarist I listen to alot are Joe Satriani and all of his styles, jimmy page, eric clapton, Jimmy Hendrix, etc. I have also been reading on some of Satriani's learning curves and coaching advice and am trying to grasp what they call "Pitch Axis Theory" anyways if anyone can direct me to a site or refer a book of some kind that explains the most common and fundamental scales to learn first and a little explaining or summary about what I need to know before moving onto learning the Pitch Axis Theory and trying those out I would appreciate it.

30 mins and 575 on the elliptical? You must be going really slow the entire time... most people burn alot less calories then they think. Most people also go to the gym and think they are really getting a good workout and they are not. I only count calories burned on the machines and that's it... anything u do on top of that at the gym is just extra. Also there's no way to tell by how may sets and or reps you do. There are alot of variables. I don't know if your going for weight loss or not but I would do 3 sets increasing weight as I go the on my 4th set lower the weight and do reps till failure

Here's my situation. I have a scholarship, and I have to maintain a cumulative 2.8 gpa. In my first semester of college, I did terribly and finished with a 2.3 gpa. I did much better in my second semester but my cumulative gpa was 2.78. So my scholarship has been revoked. What are the chances of getting my scholarship back if I appeal? The thing is, this scholarship can be reinstated in the 2012-2013 year if I get a 3.0 gpa in the next 2011-2012 year, but I can't even go back to this college if I don't have the scholarship for next year.
